CHENEY-SPOKANE CHAPTER

(IAFI-CS)

The Ice Age Floods Institute (IAFI) is a nonprofit, volunteer-based organization that is committed to the recognition and presentation of the Ice Age Floods as a significant part of the nation’s and the world’s natural heritage.  The Institute was incorporated in 1995 and includes among its members, many amateur and professional geologists, as well as members with interests or careers in other natural sciences and fields such as education, agriculture, outdoor recreation and community development.  The IAFI sponsors field trips and lectures, facilitates the exchange of information among interested individuals, organizations and agencies, and works to expand the range of interpretive resources and materials available to the public.

The Historic Downtown Cheney Partnership provides the IAFI-Cheney Spokane Chapter with a place to hold their monthly meetings, some printing services (services are compensated), storage space for materials, documents, and displays. The executive director of HDCPis also an ex-officio board member, and provides advice on and helps facilitate strategic planning. The IAFI-Cheney Spokane Chapter Board typically contracts with downtown businesses for services when they coordinate their activities (lectures, bike rides, hikes, etc.). The IAFI is working to bring a major interpretive center to downtown Cheney. They also coordinate activities that draw tourists to our area. The partnership between IAFI and HDCPexists in the promotion of the downtown as the only access to the Cheney trail head, and also in the promotion of tourism development.
